William H. Johnson
William H. Johnson was an artist during the Harlem Renaissance. He was born in Florence, South California in 1901. He started to produce artwork when he returned from France in 1938. One of the styles of art he was famous for making was folk art. This is a style of art that reflects the traditional values of society. Two of his famous paintings were Moon over Harlem and Going to Church. He was also a respected and well-established part of the African American artistic community because of the success of his artwork. William H. Johnson died in Central Islip, New York in 1970.
