W.E.B Du Bois
W.E.B Du Bois was born on February 23rd, 1868, three years after the Civil War ended. He was born and raised in Massachusetts by his mother and father. His mother died when he was 16 and afterwards he was forced to get a job to help provide for his family and younger brother. After he graduated high school in Massachusetts, as the first African American graduate, he moved on to Fisk University in Tennessee. After 3 years, he moved on to Harvard and graduated with a Ph.D. Later, he followed his father’s role and ended up fighting and leading protest for civil rights. While he was fighting for civil rights, he co-founded the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). He also published many books to fight for civil rights such as the Philadelphia Negro. He resigned from the NAACP in 1934 and started teaching at Oxford University. He died in 1963 of illness and old age.
